When you are feeling stressed it can cause a damper on your mood and your relationships. But sometimes finding the best ways to relieve stress isn’t always as easy as what others may tell you. What works for them may not work for you. That is why I enjoy getting different tips from everyone and testing things out to see what works best for me. Sometimes stress relief can come from how you treat yourself. You may need some time away from your busy schedule to relax your mind or hang out with missed friends. Whatever the case, these tips below from this contributed post give different ways you can treat yourself all while reducing some stress.

Typically, if something seems too good to be true, then it probably is, and while there are people with your best interests in mind, there are others who merely want your money.




Many people opt to treat themselves by doing something that they simply love to do. With all of the stress of children, husband, work, and everything in between, it can be easy to neglect your hobbies and eliminate the mind-freshening association that comes with it.

If you like to craft or knit or write, then just do it. Finding the time might be a challenge, and there is nothing worse than getting into the right mindset to blow off some steam only to be interrupted. However, managing to set yourself goals and eventually achieve these goals will give you a sense of accomplishment, as well as something to do during those downtimes when the kids are napping and your partner is making dinner.

Typically, this is much cheaper than jet-setting across the world, and so merely visiting somewhere away from the metropolis and towards the countryside can ease your mind and allow you to reflect and overcome.



Listening to relaxing music as opposed to whatever garbage might be played on the radio every day can have an immense effect on your stress levels. Opting for relaxing and calming music can help distract you from your day-to-day worries and therefore ease that stress, even if it is just for a little while.

There are a whole host of different platforms for you to discover this sort of music that is available for you to take advantage of. One, in particular, is some of the very, very many Spotify or Pandora playlists that focus purely on helping with relaxation so you will be sure to find the right one for you.

Along with this, you can also take advantage of its benefits while at work. We have all experienced the stresses of our careers at one point or another and so, if you can, use this music to help you concentrate at your job, just ensure it isn’t too relaxing that you doze off.



Art therapy has proven to be something that can help relieve stress in even the most overly-wired of individuals. This creative outlet can help you come to terms with the aspects of your life that are making you stressed and assist you in starting to overcome them.

Using art and drawing to deal with stress can help you relax, act as a distraction, as well as a self-care technique. The most beneficial part about it, though, is that you can do it anywhere, provided you have a pen or pencil and something to draw on.

While you might not be a dog person or a cat person, you can still find the right animal for you. Furthermore, your kids will love you forever after bringing something else for them to love into the house.

Pets of all kinds have been proven to lower blood pressure as well as the risk of heart-disease and offer you something that will always be happy to see you when you get home. Your kids may have shown a lot of love when they were younger, but kids get older and in their teens are perhaps too cool for all of that. With a pet, they will love you unconditionally and give you something to cuddle on those days where you just don’t feel like yourself.

Too often do we let everything pile up and up and up until eventually it comes crashing down without warning. You want to ensure that your family is well cared for and happy, but that won’t happen unless you care for yourself, as well.

Learning what is right for you is essential to being able to relieve stress. While it might take a while to discover just what the perfect remedy is for you, once you find it you will be able to tackle and battle and conquer your stress and understand how you can continue to live the life you want, without succumbing to all the worries of the world.



There are many different ways to relieve stress but finding what works for you will only happen if you try. I like to do different things depending on my mood. Sometimes music works for me and I can just relax as I listen to some soothing music sometimes even while relaxing in a nice warm bath.

Whatever your choice may be, don’t forget to treat yourself to some time off. This in its self will help keep your stress levels lower.

When we are stressed we can be a stress to others and since we, as mothers, care for others we must learn to care for ourselves. Even if you are not a mother, self-care is still important to help you live an optimal life.

  2. Super helpful to have lists like this a click away when I’m feeling stressed and overwhelmed. I am very lucky that I have an emotional support cat who is very in touch with my mood – she’ll come sit in my lap when I’m upset. I think everyone should have a pet at all times, one they bond with you on a deeper level. Animals are so intuitive and such good healers.
