Sleep is vital to our health, so getting the best sleep is something we all need but not something we all get. I am not a fan of putting things unnatural in my body and so I like to eliminate medication as best as I can. If I can find a natural way to get the sleep I need I am all for it that is one reason I am a fan of essential oils. Unlike most sleep aids there are virtually no side effects to using essential oils as a sleep aid. There are many different essential oils and they are used for many different purposes so you may be wondering what are the best essential oils for sleeping?

Sandalwood, now I know just the thought of that may not sound very soothing but don’t be deceived the smell of this will put you to sleep in no time. It is also used for anxiety, to treat coughs, relieve diarrhea and indigestion, calm nausea, and get rid of a pesky sore throat.

Essential oils often come in a general blend of essential oils that can be used as a way to help induce sleep. Those blends may include mixtures of popular oils such as Lavender, Chamomile, Orange, Tangerine, Patchouli, Lime, Blue Tansy, Ylang Ylang. How to Use The Essential Oils For Sleep

There are two main methods most people use to get the best results when it comes to using essential oils for sleep.

Topical Use

Applying essential oils to the skin is a great way to get all the benefits of the different oils. You can use a vegetable type oil and dilute it properly. It can also be added to your favorite body lotions. Please always read directions on how to properly dilute the essential oil you have chosen.

Aromatic Use

Another favorite way to use essential oils is with diffusers. It is very easy to add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to a diffuser and place it next to your bed and be asleep in no time.

      1. One thing I remember back from my massage therapy days is the difference between German and Roman chamomiles. German is best for topical pain relief and is highly anti-inflammatory. Roman is best for sleepytime naptime zzzzzzz. Funny, German chamomile is actually blue, and roman is straw colored. This stuff can be a full-time job, there are so many nuances!

        1. Yea the color is one difference I became aware of. That is cool that German is anti-inflammatory. Thanks for sharing the differences.
